About us

What we do

Coochiemudlo Island Heritage Society

Heritage contributes to our sense of place. Our mission encompasses indigenous, settler, and environmental heritages, caring for the cultural and environmental resources of today so these resources can continue as received heritage of tomorrow.

We are a vibrant organisation with a management committee and members who care about stewardship of heritage, advocating and educating where necessary and possible. We aim to be a trusted lead organisation in the Coochiemudlo Island community.

Achieving our mission

CIHS conducts educational and environmental walks, information workshops, host open days, and promote and support the maintenance of the Emerald Fringe. We liaise with the Coochiemudlo Island Progress Association, Coastcare Inc., Bushcare Services, and other organisations to achieve these outcomes and ensure the heritage of the island is respected.

CIHS is the custodian of many historical artefacts from Coochiemudlo Island including photographs, articles, and items of island historical significance. Through these activities, engagements, and resources we strive to inform residents of their cultural past.
